Abstract

from the previous study we concluded that:
• Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an emerging biomedical optical imaging technique that performs highresolution, cross-sectional tomographic imaging of microstructure in biological systems. Ithas enhanced our understanding of changes in different ocular layers when axial myopia progresses and the globe is stretched by allowing detection of early structural retinal nerve fiber layer changes.
• High myopes (-6.0D to -12.00D) have significant lower thicknesses of their inferior and nasal quadrants when compared to low to moderate myopes.

• With an increase in axial length, peripapillary RNFL thickness does not vary consistently along the whole circumference of the optic disc ,thicknesses of the superior,inferior and nasal retinal nerve fiber layers significantly decreased ,whereas that of the temporal quadrant showed a significant increase.
• Thus RNFL measurements vary with the axial length/refractive error of the eye. Analysis of RNFL thickness in the evaluation of glaucoma should always be interpreted with reference to the refractive status. Although the normative database provided by OCT has been helpful in identifying ocular diseases involving the RNFL, it may not be reliable in the analysis of myopic eyes.
