Abstract

Pesticides constitute a broad group of substances that are designed to kill, reduce or repel insects, weeds, rodents, fungi and other organisms that can threaten public health and national economies.Acute poisoning with pesticides is a global public health problem and accounts for many deaths worldwide every year. There is higher incidence of exposure to organophosphorus (OP) pesticides because they comprise more than 50 % of all pesticides used worldwide. In Egypt, OP intoxication is a common cause of morbidity and mortality and represents more than 50% ofinsecticide poisoned patients.
