Abstract

Objectives: Decrease chemical fertilizers with untraditional methods especially bio-fertilizer which are low coast in addition improve production, quality and limit the environmental pollution. Methods & Results: Two field experiments were conducted at a Private Farm near Aga, Dakahlia Governorate during two successive winter seasons of 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 to investigate the effect of bio-fertilizers inoculation method, some foliar application treatments and their interactions on vegetative growth characters, chemical constituents, yield and quality traits of pea (Pisum sativum L.) cv. master B. The experiments of the study were executed in split plot in a randomized block design with four replicates. Bio-fertilizers treatment were presented in the main plots, while foliar application treatments were assigned in the sub plots. Each experiment included 16 treatments comprising four inoculation methods of bio-fertilizers (mixture Rhizobium leguminosarum, Bacillus megatherium and Bacillus circulans) and four foliar application treatments as follow: I. Bio-fertilizer inoculation methods: (Without inoculation- Seeds inoculation pre-sowing- Soil inoculation - Seeds and soil inoculation) II. Foliar application treatments: (Control - Seaweed extract at 2.5 ml/l- Ascorbic acid at 200 ppm - Yeast extract at 5 g/l).The obtained results could be summarized as follows:1-Vegetative growth characteristics: Using yeast extract combined with dual inoculation (seeds pre-sowing and soil inoculation after germination) had the superiority for increasing the plant growth parameters in both seasons.2- Yield and its components:The interaction effects between bio-fertilizer inoculation methods and foliar amendments studied had a significant effect on yield and its components, application of yeast extract combined with dual inoculation (seeds pre-sowing and soil inoculation after germination) recorded the highest significant values for all studied parameters followed by ascorbic acid in both seasons.3- Chemical constituents in the leaves and seeds:The interaction effect between biofertilizer and foliar applications had a significant effect on chlorophyll a and b and (a+b) in leaves and N, P and K % in leaves and seeds. The highest values were obtained from plants treated with dual inoculation (seeds and soil inoculation) combined with spraying yeast in both seasons.4- Seeds quality parameters: The interaction effect between biofertilizer inoculation methods and foliar applications had a significant effect on total carbohydrates, crude protein, non reducing sugar and total sugar. The highest values were obtained from plants treated with dual inoculation (seeds pre-sowing and soil inoculation after germination) combined with spraying yeast extract. While the highest values of reducing sugar were obtained with soil inoculation combined with spraying yeast extract followed by soil inoculation after germination combined with spraying ascorbic acid with no significant differences between them in both seasons. Conclusion: It was found that application of half recommended mineral in the presence of biofertilizers mixture using dual inoculation method (seed pre-sowing and soil inoculation after germination) and spraying pea plants with yeast extract at (5 g/l) gave balanced vegetative growth and produced high yield with high quality under the condition of this study. Hence, this treatment is recommended which the mineral fertilization is reduced to 50% and this in turn decrease the environmental pollution and production cost.
