Abstract

The term NMSC can theoretically be applied to all cutaneous cancers excluding melanoma however; it is most commonly used to refer to the two major types of skin cancers; BCC and SCC. Other less common NMSC types include SK and KA.Aquaporins are a family of small, hydrophobic, integral membrane proteins that act primarily as waters elective pores, facilitating osmotically driven water transport across cell plasma membranes. There are at least 13 mammalian AQPs.Aquaporin-3, an aquaglyceroporinis found in the plasma membrane in the basal cell layer of the epidermis, as well as suprabasal layers, and is aefficient transporter of glycerol and water. It is a key player in epidermal biology. AQP3 null mice exhibit reduced epidermal glycerol content, impaired skin elasticity, delayed barrier recovery following SC removal and delayed wound healing. This suggests that AQP3 plays a role in differentiation and proliferation of keratinocytes. So, the aim of this work was to study the expression of AQP3 .
