Abstract
Premature infants with BPD, NEC, IVH, RDS and Sepsis had higher MPV levels in early postnatal life than infants without these diseases. This might be associated with inflammatory and oxidative process.
Analysis of MPV and platelet count is a simple laboratory investigation so can be used as a predictor of morbidities of prematurity
Normal range is given as 7.5-9.5 fL atypical range of platelet volumes is 9.7–12.8 fL (femtolitre), Further analyses are needed to determine of a cut-off value for MPV in very preterm babies.
