Abstract

The incorporation of e-learning is now an expected part of the student’s learning experiences, and student’s learning is the corner stone in all higher education quality. Aim of the study was to assess the perception of the secondary technical nursing students regarding e-learning. Research design: A descriptive design was used. Settings: This study was carried out in secondary technical nursing schools, affiliated to the Health Insurance Organization, in Qalyoubiah Branch. Subjects: A sample included all available students (150) at the previously mentioned settings, (75) students from El-Nile and (75) students from Benha nursing schools. Tools of data collection: 1) A pre designed questionnaire consisted of two parts: First part was designed by the researcher to assess socio- demographic characteristics of the student such as; age, sex, academic year, father’s educational level, mother’s educational level and residence. Second part It measured perceived difficulties in applying e-learning. 2) Perception questionnaire concerned with student’s perception regarding using e-learning compared to traditional learning. Results: The main results showed that, more than two thirds of students were from rural areas with a mean age of 16.50±1.09 years. There were statistically significant relations between total perception regarding e-learning of the studied students and their age, academic year and their fathers’ educational level. There was no relation between total perception of the studied students and their residence. Approximately three quarters of studied students reported some difficulties that faced them during their application of e-learning. Conclusion: More than two fifth of the studied student’s total perception were neutral regarding e-learning and there was a highly statistically significant relation between total perception regarding e-learning of the studied students and their age and academic year. Recommendations: Training students to self-learning skills and the use of computers and internet in the learning process of nursing and providing a sufficient number of computers in the secondary technical nursing schools and sufficient time for use.
