Abstract

INTROIJUCTION AND AIM OF THE WORK
In vitro irnmunoassays permit the evaluation of the
integrity of numerous facets of the immunological system.
For studying the host-tumor interactions in patients
suffering from squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx,
T-lymphocytes counting can reflect the cell-mediated
immune response quantitatively, while the leukocyte
migration inhibition assay can qualitatively reflect
the sensitization of T-lymphocytes to tumor associated
antigens and assess the variations in this sensitization
occurring with changing clinical stage and during therapy.
The aim of this work is to assess these variations follow~J g
different surgical techniques; conservation and radical.
It has been noticed that too radical a removal of a tumor
and especially the removal of the draining lymph nodes
producing an immune reaction against it, may in some instances
reduce the defense mechanisms of the body against
certain cancers. Radical surgery may thus potentiate the
dissemination of neoplastic tissues by a direct effect
in reducing the body immunity against cancer.
