Abstract
This thesis consists of three main chapters: Chapter I: This chapter includes a literature survey on sulfonamide azo dyes. The biological activity, solvatochromism and solvent effect on sulfonamide azo dyes. Properties of dyes, and electrochemical behavior of sulfonamide dyes has been also presented. Chapter II:This chapter contains the experimental details used in the present study. It describes the method of preparation of the azo dyes. The methods of analysis and solvents used. Finally the working procedures and apparatus used in the present study have been discussed.Chapter III: This chapter subdivided into seven parts:1) The first part includes the investigation of the azo dyes using elemental analysis and characterization of the azo dyes using mass spectra, 1H NMR spectra, IR spectra and UV-Vis spectra. 2) The second part includes the solvent effect, multiparameter solvent polarity scale and evaluation of dipole moment.3) The third part includes determination of the dissociation constant of the ground and excited state, as well as, study the halochromism phenomenon.4) The fourth part concerned with DNA binding and prediction of the type of interaction between dyes and DNA. 5) The fifth part includes the cyclic voltammetric studies of the dyes.
