Abstract
This work included 20 patients with typhoid fever to dectect any evidence of haemolysis which was recorded as a rere compliction of this disease. Our results showed that anaemia is a common presentation of typhoid fever and is commonly duetoin effectiv eerythropoiesis due to toxic depression of the bone marrow during the acute stage of the disease . This anaemia is usually as sociated with leucopenia and thrombocyt openia. Haemolytic anaemia is arare manifestation of the disease but occurs especially in subjects originally predisposed to haemolysis as being GGPD deficient as our reported incidence of haemolysis (5%) agrees with the low incidence of G6PD deficiencyin Egypt (4.9%) which was recorded by McCaffrey et al. (1970). Our results also showed that infection perseis not the main triggering factor for haemolysis but it is possible that disease-drug and drug-drug synergism occur causing haernolysis in typhoid patients with G6PD deficiency Conclusion Haemolysis is not a frank item or presentation in typhoid fever . We can concluded that haemolysis if presentin our country, it is either due to drug a dministration or to G6PD deficiency state . Por .this, cases susceptible for haemolysis need to monitored for GGPD deficiency.
