Abstract
I NTRODUC TlON
Marked lipemia in urernia has been believed to occur only in
the presence of excessive proteinuria and the nephrotic syndrorne
(Bagdade et al., 1968).
However gross lipemia has been observed in patients with
non-nephrotic uremia and those undergoing hemodialysis. This
lipemia was also observed in recipients after successful renal
transplantation. Cardiovascular disease is therefore a major
hazard for these patients.
ln this study, lipid levels are described in these patients
with an attempt to determine the frequency and possible mechanisms
involved.
