Abstract

investigate the effect of some authentic assessment techniques on developing six primary students’ English language listening skills. The quasi-experimental design was adopted. Four instruments were developed and validated. They were; a list of the listening micro-skills required for primary six students, an authentic listening test for the pre/post-measurement, an assessment checklist and suggested authentic assessment tasks. Participants were 30 students enrolled in grade six in Elmostakbal elementary school in Ismailia. They were tested before the implementation of the proposed authentic techniques. Then, the proposed listening techniques were administered to the students. Finally, after applying the authentic assessment techniques a listening posttest was administered to the students. Results were statistically analyzed. They revealed that there were statistically significant differences for using authentic assessment techniques on developing the six primary students’ English listening skills in favor of the posttest. Hence, it was concluded that the authentic assessment techniques proved to be effective in developing the six primary students’ English listening skills.
