Abstract

A journey among civilizations; among history, religions, beliefs and among cosmology; this is what the thesis addresses, investigating the impact of cosmogenic principles on architecture. Cosmogenic is a branch of astronomy dealing with the dynamic, history, structure and origin of the universe. These four terms are main keywords of this research. History; on its different eras, has recorded the progress of cosmos visions that vary through time, and the reflection of those beliefs on their architecture. While dynamics; is a term that describe nations vision of cosmos movement, some described it in steady state; with disc land, above it there is heaven, while the hell is underground, and they expressed the change in day and night, or the vary in seasons by a concept of Rebirth. Although others understood cosmos as continuous revolving and rotating state around the earth. While others described the cosmos as continuous expanding state in contemporary science. The three states of cosmos vision happened in sequence, equivalent to ”the law of three stages” of French philosopher and sociologist August Comte; his suggestion of the three stages are ” the theological stage, the metaphysical stage, and the scientific stage. The third term of cosmogenic is; structure which is equal to cosmology science that described the cosmos, and the fourth term is origin; which is equal to cosmogony science that deals with cosmos origin.
Cosmogenic beliefs, has been introduced in (science, religions or myths); Those are the Stimuli that have their impacts on architecture. These appear in three factors: function, form, and orientations. The comparative analysis between the impact of cosmogenic architecture in the three states of cosmic vision, determines that cosmogenic impact in architecture has been decreasing; some factors like orientation has vanished. While some factors have been introduced with new interpretation like function; as simulators and spaceports. On other hand; some old principles have been revived with modern methods; like Bank of China Hong Kong, was built using Feng Shui principles with new interpretation.
