Abstract

Restoration of teeth after endodontic treatment and hemisection and
root resection is an integral part of restorative practice in dentistry. As these
teeth are affected by a higher risk of biomechanical failure compared to vital
and sound ones, a plethora of articles have been written in the dental
literature regarding the prosthodontic management of periodontal affected
teeth by endodontic treatment and hemisection . Many of these papers have
discussed techniques of fabricating posts and cores, whereas others presented
clinical and laboratory data that help to answer questions regarding the best
prosthodontic treatment for these teeth.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fracture resistance of
hemisectioned mandibular molar after resection of mesial root restored with
different post systems.
A total of thirty sound extracted lower first molars and thirty sound
extracted lower second premolars will be collected. Teeth washed under
running water for several seconds and stored in normal saline solution till
use. Distal root canal of molars will be endodontically treated and obturated
by lateral condensation with gutta percha and eugenol free root canal sealer.
The samples was grouped to three main group according to the type of
the post system into group A for cast metal post and core (n = 20), group B
for prefabricated fiber post and composite core and group C for custom made
fiber post (ever stick) and composite core (n = 20).Then each main group was
divided into two subgroups one of them was cemented by total etch resin
cement (n=10) and anther cemented by self adhesive resin cement (n=10).
All teeth were prepared by C.N.C milling machine (computer
numerical control), then each prepared hemisecred molar and premolar were
mounted in epoxy resin blocks by using silicone key (a vinyl polysiloxane
impression material).
Then all bridges was fabricated by using wax dipping technique in
silicone index then , metal bridges frame work was casted ,finished and
polished . Then the specimens were subjected to dynamic loading before
testing.
Statical analysis of the results revealed that post type had a statically
significant while the cement type was non – statically significant.
