Abstract The purpose of the present study is to investigate the effect of using some visual learning strategies on developing the 5th year primary students’ EFL writing skills. Reviewing literature and related studies and using students’ questionnaires, the researcher came up to the most suitable visualized writing skills for the experimental primary school students and stated them in a checklist. Accordingly, a story writing program, based on using two visual learning strategies ″mind mapping and story mapping″ was designed to develop those skills throughout the computer use. To carry out the experiment of the study, a group of 24 participants from the 5th year experimental primary school students were randomly selected in Hadaik El Maadi experimental language school to be the experimental group. A pre-post writing test was designed to determine the effect of both strategies before and after experimentation. Analysis of data obtained showed much higher significant differences in favor of the experimental group in overall writing and in each writing sub-skill (content, organization and vocabulary). Also, discussion of findings, recommendations and suggestions for further studies were included. Finally, it was concluded that the present study provided evidence for the effectiveness of using visual learning strategies on developing EFL writing skills.
