Abstract

The thesis comprises three main chapters; introduction, experimental, and results and discussion, these chapters can be summarized as: Chapter 1: Introduction This chapter provides a short note about polymers and molecular weight averages. In addition, light scattering theory in the homogenous and nonhomogeneous medium was discussed and studied. This part focused on the treatment and the mathematical derivation for weight-average molecular weight of small and large particles in an appropriate solvent. Also, show how to construct Zimm plot, and use it to determine the scattering parameters: weight-average molecular weight Mw, radius of gyration , and second virial coefficient A2.Chapter 2: Experimental This chapter contains a description of the used optical tools, used chemicals, and sample preparation procedures of polystyrene, polyvinyl alcohol, poly (4-vinylphenol) in different solvents which gives a series of concentrations. Also shows our self-built system set-up.Chapter 3: Results & discussion This chapter includes the results and discussion and consists of two subparts.
