Abstract

study the expression of CD56 and /or CD 7 and their co-expression with CD34 on blast cell in newly diagnosed acute lymphoblastic leukemia and acute myeloid leukemia patients to evaluate their role as a prognostic marker Patients and methods: This study was carried out on fifty patients of acute leukemia collected from the Hematology Unit - Internal Medicine department - Faculty of Medicine – Tanta University and Tanta Cancer Center.. They classified into two groups (Group I) 25 newly diagnosed AML patients their ages ranged from( 17 - 42 years ) and(Group II) 25of ALL patients their ages ranged from (17 to 45 years) Results: These groups were subjected to statistical comparison. CD56 expression CD7 and CD34 in group (I) and( II) didn’t associate significantly with age, sex or with any of the clinical data of the patients including: fever, hepatosplenomegaly and lymphadenopathy. Moreover, CD56 expression was not significantly with platelet count, blast percentage in PB at diagnosis but it was significantly associated with higher WBC count and serum LDH level. In the current study CD56, CD7 and CD34 expression were estimated in association with remission relapse and mortalit`y rates and we found The expression of CD56 antigen ,CD7 and CD34 on the blast cells in ALL cases had a significant adverse effect on the survival of patients.
