Abstract Thermal ablative therapy is an advancing alternative in bone tumors. Thermal therapy is a minimally invasive therapy that reduces invasiveness compared to conventional surgery and shortens hospital stays and rehabilitation for the patient. Thermal ablative techniques are radiofrequency ablation, laser-induced interstitial thermo-therapy, microwave ablation, high intensity focused ultrasound and cryoablation. Thermal ablation has a low complication rate. Complications may occur immediately or with a delay after a procedure, and may be related to the puncture, the entire procedure or to the patient’s disease and individual situation. In bone tumors it is used for treatment of osteoid osteoma, palliative for bone metastasis and adjuvant to surgical treatment. |
