Abstract

Hydatidosis is caused by larvae of cestodes of the genus Echinococcus, the adult of
which is found in carnivores. The intermediate host is infected by swallowing eggs passed in
the faeces of the definitive host. The prevalence of human hydatidosis depends upon the
intimate association of man with infected dogs. Infection usually takes place in childhood
which is the period of unhygenic habits, also there is tendency of infection in members of the
same family (Ferro, 1946).
The s1gns and symptoms of hydatidosis are dependent on the location of the cyst
and its rate of grOWth. This hydatid cyst is difficult to be differentiated from any other
space occupying lesion like malignancy and cystic mass. The most reliable diagnosis depends
on a como,nation of both rad.ological metnods and immunod1agnostic techn1ques
(Kaga~. 1968),
