Abstract

The present study was carried out during the period from 2011 to 2013 at the Tissue Culture Lab., Hort. Dept., Fac. Agric., Zagazig University to micropropagate strawberry (Fragaria X ananassa Duch.) plants. The highest value of shoots number /explant was recorded with strawberry Florida cultivar cultured on MS media supplemented with 0.1 ppm BA +0.1 ppm Kin. during multiplication stage. In addition, Sweet charlie cv. recorded the highest value of fresh and dry weight/ shoot .During rooting stage the shoots of regenerated strawberry cv. Florida cultured on MS medium containing 0.1ppm IBA+ 1gm/l activated charcoal (AC) produced the highest number of roots /plantlet. Murashige and Skoog (MS) media supplemented with different concentrations of moringa leaf extract (MLE) recorded the lowest average of number of shoots/explant compared to those amended with synthetic plant growth hormone (0.1ppm BA+0.1 ppm Kin.). Adding different concentrations of tested MLE to MS media during rooting stage recorded the highest number of roots/ plantlet compared to those supplied with synthetic plant growth regulators (IBA). Acclimatization of strawberry transplants in substrates containing peat moss alone or peat moss +vermiculite at ratios of 3:1 and 2:1,(v/v) recorded over 93.3% survival percentage after six weeks from the beginning of acclimatization stage.
