Abstract Neuroblastoma is the most common malignant tumor of infancy and, after brain tumors, the most common malignant solid tumors of childhood. Neuroblastoma accounts for 6 to 8 percent of all childhood malignancies. It originates from the neural crest. The tumor is fairly soft and lobulated, with greyish to pink color and with areas of Haemorrhage and necrosis. It is one of small round cell tumors of childhood which can be seen to form themselves into rosettes in well differentiated disease. Neuroblastoma commonly presents as a mass anywhere along the sympathetic chain from the head to the pelvis. Intractable watery diarrhea, hypertension are other forms of presentation. Being a highly metastatizing tumor ,the liver suffers the brunt of metastatic dissemination. |
