Abstract

Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMPs) are members of the TGF- β superfamily. They can singly induce novo bone formation. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), developed in France by Choukroun et al (2001), is a second generation platelet concentrate widely used to accelerate soft and hard tissue healing. This study was conducted to compare the effect of BMPs and PRF on bone density and marginal bone height around dental implants radiographically. A split mouth design was assigned where 32 implants were used in 16 patients. In comparative study of the percentage of the Marginal bone loss and percentage of changes in bone density between both sides, no statistical significant difference was detected. In spite of that, the improvement in PRF sides was better than in BMPs sides.
