Abstract

This work represents the extraction of oil with high free fatty acid content from spent bleaching earth using sub. Critical water technology the studied parameters include extraction temperature in the range of 180-270°c, feed to solvent ratio and the extraction time in the range of 5-60 minutes. The results showed that the optimum conditions were 270°c, 1:3 (feed to solvent ratio) and 20 minutes time of extraction. The oil extracted was esterified with glycerol to produce mono, di and triglycerides as a value added products.Kinetics and thermodynamics were studied and the extraction process was found to be an irreversible consecutive unimolecul as type first order reaction and the activation energy was found to be 64,1 kg / mol, which indicates a diffusion controlled reaction. The obtained data were used to design a tubular reactor with 7 kg capacity heated with an electrical heater.
