Abstract

Liver fibrosis is a common medical problem in Egypt with far-reaching economical and social consequences. Liver fibrosis results -#102;-#114;-#111;-#109; chronic damage to the liver in conjunction with the accumulation of ECM proteins, which is a -#99;-#104;-#97;-#114;acteristic of most types of chronic liver diseases. The main causes of liver fibrosis include chronic HCV infection, alcohol abuse, and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). br Fibrosis of the liver and its end stage, cirrhosis, represents a massive health care burden worldwide. The fibrotic process underlies virtually all the complications of end-stage liver disease, including portal hypertension, ascites and encephalopathy. br Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) is a potent antifibrogenic factor that antagonizes the effect of tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase (TIMP-1). Our results showed mMMP-9 has significant reduction of fibrosis score and fibrosis parameters.
