Abstract

Chorisia (bottle tree, silk floss tree or drunken tree) is a genus of deciduous trees belongs to family Bombacaceae and comprises about twenty species. They occur naturally throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of the world especially in South America. Besides their popularity as ornamental plants with beautiful and elegant flowers, Chorisia possesses significant folkloric, economic and commercial reputation. Phytochemical analysis of Chorisia spp. has recently yielded a number of important phytocompounds. Biologically, it was reported that some Chorisia species possess wide range of useful anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, anticancer, antioxidant, hypoglycemic and antimicrobial effects with high safety margins and LD50 up to 7-8 g/kg in lab animals.Phytochemical study of Chorisia chodatii Hassl. including extraction, fractionation, isolation and identification of the main constituents of its flowers In vitro production of the bioactive phenolic constituents of Chorisia chodatii Hassl. and Chorisia speciosa A. St.-Hil. using callus cultures Biological study of Chorisia chodatii Hassl. and Chorisia speciosa A. St.-Hil. including comparative evaluation of total phenolic contents, antioxidant activities and effects on adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 cells of different extracts obtained from various plant parts of both species.
