Abstract The preparation and characterization of composite polymer of poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) doped with different concentration of poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) have been investigated. These composite films were prepared by casting technique, the organic compound Tetrahydrofuran (THF) was used as a solvent for poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) and poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), the solution was stirred for 12 hours and put in petri dishes for 12 hours to evaporate the solvent, the final product was a homogenous films. These composite films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and suggest generally an amorphous nature to all samples. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra indicate complex formation between the components (PVC-PMMA). The mechanical properties of the films have been investigated by the UNIVERSALMATERIALS TESTING MACHINE to study the change of mechanical properties of poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) by adding poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). The thermal stability for these films was investigated by thermo-gravimetric analyzer to study the effect of doping PVC with PMMA on the thermal stability of poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC). |
