Abstract In this study we evaluate d the outcome of endoscopic endonasa l transsphenoidal approach in 20 patients with pituitary adenomas. According to t he site of pituitary gland which lies within the sella turcica at the base of the brain. Access to the sella is limited because it is surrounded by vital structures making the preferred surgical routes to the gland tumors being from below through this approach.The clinical mani festations of the pituitary adenomas usually presented either by pituitary hyper function, pituitary insufficiency or mass effects as headache and visual dysfunction. Preoperative evaluation of pituitary adenomapatients has been esta b- lished by clinical examination, n euroimaging studies ,endocrinological test bing and visual examination MRI with Gad olinium was the most useful modality for imaging the pituitary gland and sellar region .The role of CT in this region was assisting in preoperative planning through evaluation of the nasal cavity and type and shape of the sphenoid sinus . |
