Abstract

This work was done aiming to study the gross and microscopic variations in the small intestine of different vertebrate species in a trial to find a resonable relationship between these variations and feeding habits. This study was carried out on five groups of different animal species. from each group, five animals were sacrificed and their small intestine were removed, examined for external features and their length were measured in centimetres. Specimens from different parts of small intestine were taken, fixed in different fixatives and subjected to different histological and histochemical studies including; Haematoxylin and Eosin for general histological picture , Alcain blue- periodic acid schiff s technique for detection of the amount, nature and distribution of mucopolysubstances in the surface epithelium.
