Abstract
This work was done aiming firstly to study the prenatal
developmentand the changes in the lymphoid organs in response to
aging.The study was done on the thymus, as one of the central
lymphoidorgans, the spleen and the cervicallymph nodes as peripheral
Secondly, to study the changes which would result in these
organs under the effect of two major immunosuppressive drugs
(cyclophosphamideand corticosteroids) which were commonly used in
thetreatment of neoplastic and auto-immune diseases beside many
otherindications. Doses equivalent to the human therapeutic ones were
usedin the present study.
Two hundred and eighty albino rats of both sexes and of
erent ages were used in the present work. Fourteen adult pregnant
ales and five adult males were used to give embryos to study
natal developmental changes. On the other hand, seventy three rats
sifledinto six groups according to the age (3days, 10 days, 20 days,
days, adult age and old age) and were used to study the postnatal
lopment of the lymphoid organs.
In the experimental study, seventy healthy adult male albino
with average weight 200 grams were classilled into two major
