Abstract

Aim: was to evaluate the effectiveness of microabrasion technique on induced white spot lesion on enamel surface of extracted premolars using laser induced breakdown spectroscopy analysis , scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray analysis .
Materials and Methods: Twenty extracted premolars were divided into 2 main groups contol group (CG) consisted of 4 premolars and demineralizing group(DG) consisted of 16 premolars which were subdivided into 4 subgroups each consisted of 4 premolars two of which were subjected to microabrasion then treated with amorphous calcium phosphate (MACP) and artificial saliva (MAS) and the two other groups were demineralized only then treated with amorphous calcium phosphate(DACP) and artificial saliva (DAS).
Results : Data were analyzed using Anova or One way analysis of variance and regression modeling test .The resuls showed that the control group showed the highest percentage of calcium and phosphorous and the most homogenous honey comp appearance of the enamel surface . After demineralization showed the least calcium and phosphorous percentage and pitted enamel surface .DACP subgroup showed the highest median of calcium ions while MACP and DAS showed similar medians and MAS had the lowest median .
Conclusion : microabrasion technique is excellent in masking white spot lesions but it actually microabrade the enamel surface . ACP as a material explained that it is very effective regarding remineralization.
