Abstract

The aim of the present study was to compare three resin based root canal sealers (Top Seal, EZ Fill and Perma Evolution), in terms of sealing ability surface adaptability and antibacterial effect. Eighty one, freshly extracted human maxillary molars were selected. Rotary Nickel Titanium ProTaper system was used to prepare the root canals. The samples were then divided into 3 groups (n= 27) according to the sealer used. Twenty four roots were selected from each group for the sealing ability part and the rest (3 roots) for the evaluation of adaptability. In the sealing ability part, the samples were examined at three time intervals 1, 3 and 7 days using the Dye Extraction method. Optical densities were measured by Elisa Reader at 550 nm wave length. For the adaptation and interface evaluation, the roots were prepared for SEM examination. Each section was examined at coronal, middle and apical thirds. The tested sealers were challenged against the Enterococcus Faecalis using the Direct Contact Test (DCT). The results showed that Perma Evolution group showed the statistically significantly highest sealing ability. For the adaptation and interface results, Top Seal and Perma Evolution showed better adaptation than EZ Fill. Top Seal and EZ Fill. Both showed the statistically significantly highest antibacterial effect compared to Perma Evolution.
