Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of cochlear implantation in children with or without a history of frequent otitis media and the chance of post-impact acute otitis media andcomplications, through a systematic reviewing. So a search for published articles was done using Medline, Embase, and PubMed, using the keywords cochlear implant and children and complication, for each citation identified we will scan titles, abstracts or both to identify randomized controlled trials or retrospective English studies, these articles will review to identify those that met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected from six articles matching the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total number of 495 patients underwent cochlear implantation were divided into OM prone group 204 (41%) child and non OM prone group 291 (59%), out of whom 86 (42%) & 36 (12%) developed post implantation OM. A significant association between frequent pre-implantation otitis media and post-implantation otitis media was found. In our study the overall prevalence of pre-implantation OM was 41% compared to post-implantation OM which was 24.6%.. In our study mastoiditis was reported among 9 cases of OM prone group and 7 cases of non OM group. |
