Abstract The present study was designed to provide base line information on the ability of MSCs to treat and protect against liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. A total number of one hundred and thirty one adult male and female Sprague dwaely (SD) rats (average body weight 150-200 g) were used, and animals were divided into two experiments to study the effect of two different models of liver fibrosis induction (CCl4 and TAA). Each experiment was subdivided into seven groups. With recording of the clinical signs, body weight, gross lesions, clinical biochemistry findings, histopathological findings and also immunohistochemistry staining of α-SMA protein. MSCs were isolated from the bone marrow of twenty five male SD rats (4- 5 weeks old) and labeled with PKH26 dye to evaluate the homing of MSCs in the liver tissue. The liver tissue and liver function enzymes of rats which were treated and protected with MSCs showed improvement when compared with control positive group. |
