Abstract The present work is assigned to study the corrosion behavior of aluminum in 0.5M HCl solution and the inhibiting effect of some chalcone derivatives and aqueous basil extract. The obtained results showed that the inhibition efficiency of these compounds increased by increasing their concentrations and decreases by increasing the temperature, so that the adsorption of these compounds is physical and the adsorption of the organic compounds on aluminum surface in 0.5 M HCl follows Langmuir adsorption isotherms. Some thermodynamic parameters are computed and discussed. Weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization technique was used as a second method to study the inhibiting effect of the used inhibitors. Also, impedance spectroscopy measurements, electrochemical frequency modulation measurements and surface examination were done. Key words: (not more than Ten): Corrosion – Inhibition – aluminum – Basil – chalcone– potentiodynamic Polarization –Thermodynamic parameters – Impedance spectroscopy – Electrochemical frequency modulation –Weight loss. |
