Abstract

Implantation of IOLs in children involve several unique challenges not present in adult cataract surgery, as children`s eyes continue to undergo significant growth and change during postoperative years, resulting in refractive changes that complicate the prediction of post-operative refraction and IOL power. This complex situation is further compounded by the use of IOL calculation formulas that generally are designed for adult and not reliable for young children who have steeper, narrower corneas, shorter axial length and correspondingly shallower anterior chamber. This study was designed to assess the predictability of different IOL formulas to achieve the desired refractive outcomes in children undergoing cataract surgery with primary IOL implantation. Fifty eight eyes of forty one children with age range 6 months to 18 years were involved in this study and the comparison was done between the 4 IOL power calculation formulas( SRK II , SRKT , Holladay I , Hoffer Q ). Full ophthalmological evaluation is done.
