In 1892, 12 years after Sandstorm’s discovery of
parathyroid glands, Von Recklinghausen reported a
bone disease. He termed it ”Osteitis Fibrosa Cystica”.
In 1904, Askonyz described the bone changes of
parathyroid tumor and linked it with Von
Recklinghausen Osteitis Fibrosa Cystica. In 1928,
Dexon and his Colleagues gave the scientific name of
hyperparathyroidism ”a patient with bone disease,
muscle weakness and hypersecreting parathyroid
gland”.
A lot of cases with metabolic bone disease can
be missed if we don’t put in our consideration the
serious affection of parathyroid hormone on the bone.
