Abstract

Abu Gharadig Basin is one of the most prolific basins in the northern
part of the Egyptian Western Desert. It is attracted the attention of geologists
and geophysicists for oil and gas investigation and exploration. This is due
to the huge subsurface sedimentary section exists in the basin which include
considerable reservoir rocks within the members of the Upper Cenomanian
to Maastrichtian, Khoman, Abu Roash, Lower Cenomanian Bahariya and
the Albian Kharita formations. However, potential source rocks have been
encountered within the Khatatba Formation and Abu Roash ”F” Member.
The study area, namely, GPT oil field, Abu Sennan concession area is
located at the southeast of Abu Gharadig basin, which include Abu Sennan
highs. The area of study lies about 200 Km west to River Nile and located at
15 Km to the southeast of Abu Gharadig oil field. It covers about 53.69 Km2
and located between, latitudes 29° 36` and 29° 39` N (156729.11-
162411 N), longitudes 28° 36` and 28° 42` E (854929 -864614 E).
The present study aims to characterization of the Upper Cretaceous
reservoir of GPT oil field in Abu sennan area, based on the geological,
stratigraphy, structural framework, petrophysical parameters, reservoir
properties and building a 3D geological modeling. This has been done to
evaluate the hydrocarbon potentialities and optimize production of the study
area. The data used in this study include a complete set of well logs of eight
wells (composite, gamma ray, caliper, resistivity, density, neutron and sonic
logs). In addition, fourteen 2D seismic lines and vertical seismic profiling
have been interpreted.
