Abstract The dehumidification process is an important process in many applications in a very large variety of industrial and daily usage products including the new HVAC systems. Liquid desiccant systems are very efficient systems that used for that purpose. The present study aim to evaluate the performance of the proposed liquid desiccant air dehumidifier system which using calcium chloride solution as a liquid desiccant. The performance parameters for the air dehumidifier are the reduction ratio of air humidity and the dehumidifier effectiveness. The parameters being studied here are the desiccant solution concentration, desiccant temperature, desiccant flow rate and air flow rate. To perform this purpose several experimental runs have been done under the following conditions: - Desiccant flow rate range : 4 – 8 L / min - Desiccant temperature range : 10 – 18 oC - Desiccant solution concentration : 40% , 20% - Air flow rate range : 0.03 – 0.1 m3 / sec The experimental results show that, both the air humidity reduction and the dehumidification effectiveness increase with increasing each of the desiccant flow rate, the desiccant temperature and the desiccant solution concentration. Also the results indicated that both the air humidity reduction and the dehumidification effectiveness are decreased with increasing the air flow rate. Empirical correlations based on the present experimental results for both the air humidity reduction and the dehumidification effectiveness in terms of the different operating conditions were developed. |
