Abstract Cardiac arrest is one of the most high-risk situations, which requires urgent, immediate and deliberate action to survive and prevent the complications of the body vital systems. In sudden death situations (CPR) is vital for pediatric patient survival.Thus, nurses’ competency in CPR is a critical factor in pediatric patient outcome from cardiac arrest. CPR competency is defined as possessing cognitive knowledge and psychomotor skills to be able to perform CPR in a cardiac arrest situation. This can only be achieved by training. Aim of the study was to determine the effect of educational training on nurse’s practices regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation in pediatric intensive care unit. The present study was carried out at the PICU and Emergency department in El-Mobarra hospital affiliated to the Health Insurance at Tanta City. The subject of the study involved all nurses (40) nurses from Pediatric intensive care unit and (20) nurses from Emergency department.Three tools were used to collect data: tool I; structure interview sheet to assess nurses’ knowledge about CPR. Tool II; Practical test sheet to assess nurses’ practice during CPR at the PICU and Emergency department. It was adapted by the researcher according to American heart association program, basic life support for pediatric 2011. Tool III; educational training program about cardiopulmonary resuscitation.The tools I and II were used before and after educational training to assess nurses’knowledge and practice regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation. |
