Abstract

a) This research deals with the subject of Female Representations in Coptic Wall Painting and is divided into three Chapters and conclusion.
Chapter One: Wall-Painting and Women in Coptic Art
This chapter deals with an introduction for the wall painting as an art during the Coptic era. It also considers the rules followed by the Coptic artisans in wall paintings. The rest of the first chapter deals with the social status of women in Coptic Egypt and also considers her religious roles; as for instance women as monks and saints.
Chapter Two: Religious and Commoners Women at Wall Painting
This chapter deals with scenes of religious women and also commoners which were taken from subjects within the Old Testament. As for instance, scenes of the saint Thecla, Elzabeth, Saint Theodosia, Mary Magdalene, Noah’s Wife and his Two Daughters, Sara (Abraham’s Wife), Rebecca, suzanne and others. Detailed descriptions for the scenes of religious women and commoners in Coptic wall paintings are given in this chapter.
Chapter Three: the Holy Virgin Mary at Wall-Painting
This chapter considers the scenes of the Holy Virgin Mary in wall paintings as for instance, The Annunciation, Nativity, and Assumption.
This thesis includes an appendix of scenes of Female Representations in Coptic Wall Paintings. It includes about 61 plates.
