Abstract This study was carried out on 75 cases of cataract. These cases were operated and followed up in the ophthalmology department of Sohag university hospital in the period from June 2011 to June 2013. Every patient was subjected to: 1-Complete preoperative clinical evaluation including careful ophthalmological examination. 2-Measurement of visual acuity, refractive astigmatism and keratometric astigmatism. 3-Postoperative care and follow-up to assess and compare the results. The cases underwent phacoemulsification surgery with implantation of a foldable acrylic posterior chamber IOL through 3mm temporal clear corneal incision. The cases were followed-up for 6 months postoperatively to assess the visual acuity, refractive astigmatism and keratometric astigmatism. We noted that the refractive astigmatism in pseudophakic eyes differed significantly from the keratometric astigmatism and, according to our data, the keratometric astigmatism explained about 49% of the subjective refractive astigmatism. |
