Abstract

Port said is characterized by thick layers of soft clay. In south of port said, soft clay strata extend few tens of meters from ground surface making it not possible to apply conventional ground improvement methods, as soil replacement. Deep mixing method (DMM) is an alternative method that does not require full soil replacement and can be applied up to 40 m. due to the short history of the DMM in Egypt . there is limited data on improved properties of port said clay. In addition , enorimous amounts of by-products from cement, marble and limestone industries need to be employed instead of being environmentally harmful materials.this research aims to bridge the gap of limited data about the effectivenessof dry mixing method to improve strength properties of port said clay by common binders, cement and lime.moreover, the effectiveness of cement waste, limestone waste and marble powder to partially or fully replace cement and lime in the dry mixing method is examined.
