Abstract Objectives:First to determine whether being obese patients are associated with having periodontitis. Second is to determine whether the shift in the serum resitin level in obese subjects may be associated with having periodontitis Patients and methods: 85 subjects were selected and divided into two groups: obese group included 54 subjects with (BMI≥25kg/m2) and none obese group included 31 subjects with (BMI<25kg/m2).The anthropometric measurements, periodontal scores, resistin, hsCRP and lipidprofile were assessed compared and correlated. Results:Significantly higher periodontal scores and resistin levels were found in obese group as compared to none obese group. Also significant and positive correlation was found between CAL and BMI, BMI and resistin and CAL and resistin. Conclusion:the periodontitis was significantly correlated with BMI-defined obesity. In particular, the correlation between the periodontitis and obesity could be higher in 50-60 years of age. The serum resistin level and hsCRP were significantly correlated with obesity as well as periodontitis. |
