Abstract

In the present study focused on sheep Listeriosis at Kalubia Governorate. Brain samples were collected from shep exhibiting nervous manifestation. Then bacteriological and histopathological examination done for identification of the strain. Then the use of rabbits as laboratory animals for production of killed Listeria bacterin. 631 sheep were examined clinically for nervous manifestation . 60 sheep reveled different nervous signs of Listeria. The highest rate of morbidity and mortality at 3-6months at Autumn and Winter. The main clinical signs were circling in one side, head tilt, dropping ear, hanging food from the mouth for long period and finally recumbancy and death. Bacteriological examination revealed that isolated strain was Listeria (gram positive cocoibaccill motile with tumbling motility).for further assurance the isolated strain instilled in eye of rabbit and the result was purulent conjunctivitis and keratitis. Also the isolated strain injected intranasal into rabbits and the result was appearance of nervous manifestation as paralysis in hind quarter. Histopathological examination revealed main pathognomic lesion of Listeria, microabscess. Then the isolated strain inoculated intranasal in rabbits and PM examination revealed presence of congestion of blood vessels of brain, nodular formation of lung , necrotic foci in liver also enlarged spleen and dark coloration of kidney. And histopathological examination revealed main pathognomic lesion of Listeria, microabscess in brain. Also there was trail for preparation of Listeria bacterin from the isolated strain from sheep under investigation by using rabbits as laboratory animals. The result of ELISA test showed that presence of antibodies in serum of vaccinated rabbits and for further assurance blood samples were collected from infected and vaccinated rabbits for study the effect of vaccine on the blood picture and result revealed that increase in WBCs, Lymphocytes, Monocytes and granulocytes count.
