Abstract Diabetes appears to be a global health problem. It is estimated that, the developing countries will bear the brunt of diabetes epidemics in the 21st century especially Eastern Mediterranean Region. The transition to urban environment and greater economic affluence has been associated with changes in physical activity and dietary patterns that have promoted the prevalence of diabetes mellitus. The aim of this study was to detect the prevalence of diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes mellitus and impaired fasting glucose in Cohort of adult Egyptian population living at Sarsika, Meet yazid & Demityoh villages in Kom Hamada Sector of Behera Governorate This study included 500 adult subjects ≥20 years of age regardless of whether he or she had diabetes. These subjects were selected at random by taking roughly one house every 10 houses, they were asked for information on age, sex, place of residence, the status of physical activities, family history of diabetes, hypertension, CHD and for women history of GDM. Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) samples were taken after overnight fasting for at least 8 hours up to 12 hours. The cut-off points for diagnosis of diabetes mellitus and impaired fasting glucose were taken according to ADA recommendations in 2012. from the results of the present study, we can conclude the followings. |
