Abstract In terms of cost and years of potential lives lost, injury arguably remains the most important public health problem facing the world. Trauma is the sixth leading cause of death worldwide resulting in five million or 10% of all deaths. In Egypt, injuries are a significant source of morbidity and mortality. They are the 5th leading cause of death and the leading cause of hospitalization and account for at least one quarter of all inpatients. Limb injuries represent the commonest form of injury involved in RTA (Road Traffic Accidents).limb injuries are a common problem for the physically active and such injuries may result in diminished performance, reduced participation and, in the longer term, loss of function, chronic joint disease, and disability. This study had been designed to evaluate some medico-legal aspects of cases of extremities trauma arrived to Menofiya university hospitals as regard demographic data, types, causes and radiological pattern. This study was conducted during the period from 1/1/2011 to 31/12/2011. The total patients’ number during the period of the study was 1020 patients. Males represent (73%) of cases of extremities trauma. Age group 18– <30 years constituted 31.9% of traumatized patients while age group 40-50 years old was the least (8%). Manual workers accounted for (67.4%) of cases of limbs trauma. majority of injured cases came from rural areas (81.2%). Most of injured cases were married (81%). Illiteracy accounted for (52.9%) of the injured cases. |
