Abstract
Preeclampsia and eclampsia are one of the great triad of
compl ications (hernorrhage-sepsis-pre-ec lampsialeclampsia) responsible
for the majority of maternal deaths.
This study aimed to review impact of management of eclamptic
patients admitted to Zagazig University Hospital, with comparable age
and gestational age, during a two-year period, on maternal and fetal
outcome.
This combined retrospective and prospective study was conducted in
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig
University Hospital, Emergency Unit.
Group (I) was retrospectively including all eclamptic primigravida
women that were admitted to Zagazig University Hospital from January
2011 to December 2011. ·Group (2) was prospectively including those
who were admitted to Zagazig University Hospital from January 2012 to
December 2012. There were no statistically significant differences
between the two groups regarding age, gestational age, systolic blood
pressure, diastolic blood pressure, presence of antenatal care and family
history of hypertension.
Group (1): Retrospective group:
It included 23 patients, their age ranged from 17-37 years and their
gestational age ranged from 31-38 weeks.
Group (2): Prospective group:
It included 22 patients, their age ranged from 17-38 years and their
gestational age ranged from 30-38 weeks.
