Abstract

A power plant is assembly of systems or subsystems to generate electricity, i.e., power with economy and requirements. The power plant itself must be useful economically and environmental friendly to the society Worldwide, most electric power is produced by steam-electric power plants, which produce about 86% of all electric generation Steam power plants generally are the most economical choice for large capacity plants. Reciprocating steam engines have been used for mechanical power sources since the 18th Century. Chapter 2 explains the most prominent physical feature of a modern steam power plant (other than its smokestack) is the steam generator, or boiler. A boiler (or steam generator, as it is commonly called) is a closed vessel in which water, under pressure, is transformed into steam by the application of heat. The steam generator and condenser both may be thought of as types of heat exchangers, the former with hot combustion gases flowing on the outside of water filled tubes, and the latter with external cooling water passing through tubes on which the low- pressure turbine exhaust steam br>condenses. In a well-designed heat exchanger, both fluids pass through with little pressure loss These components include the boiler surface, superheater, reheater, economizer, and air heater The steam turbine is classified as a heat engine, as are the steam engine, the internal combustion engine, and the gas turbine. Steam turbines are used in industry for several critical purposes: to generate electricity by driving an electric generator and to drive equipment such as compressors, fans, and pumps. It is necessary a complete knowledge of all the components and of all their design data. This knowledge is obtained by a methodical and careful study of the plant to be accomplished through both the drawings and the monographs or instruction manuals, but with accurate plant inspections above all Chapter 3 shows the inspections necessary to accomplish to the plant Before star! up and Checking of turbo generator behavior during first speed Increase up to 3000 rprn and testing of overspeed, other tripping channels and checking of stop valves tightness.
