Abstract occurrence of enteritis caused by campylobacter species has been recorded virtually all over the world. campylobacter jejuni infection called campylobacteriosis, causes diarrhea, which might be watery or sticky and might contain blood. onset of illness occurs 2-5 days after eating contaminated food or water and lasts between 7 and 10 days, with a relapse in 25% of cases. the PCR identification algorithm can detect and identify campylobacter to the species level and the result is obtained on the same day. however, PCR is expensive, labour intensive and does not provide an isllate for further identification or typing. |
