Abstract

This work deals with a very important topic in the field of automatic control , that are subject of optimal controller design for alarge scalecontrol systems. The main purpose of this thesis is to design optimal controller for large scale system. The model has been developed for the diesel engine as a case of study of large scale system.
This thesis deals with a mathematical model of a diesel engine with a turbocharger , where a simulation of a diesel engine has been done, this simulations have been made by using the mathematical model of the engine. Simulation make it easy to study the behavior of the engine under various operating conditions and with different loads . Simulation model can be used to find the better design characteristics. Also simulation can analyze and forecast the different operating conditions of engine. The model are implemented and solved using the computational environment MATLAB Simulink.Measurement have been done practically on diesel engine using different measurement devices and the data from the various sensors are collected using a digital measuring system and the quantities measured are pressure, temperature ,engine speed , engine brake power and turbocharger speed. Thethesis aimsare to develop the mathematical model of the engine and the simulation engine to study of both steady state and transient performance of diesel engine and design LQR controller for the suggested model.
A comparison between the dynamic characteristics of the use of two types of engine governors controllers in the simulation model after calculating the controller constants. The controllers are PI controller and PID controller, for the second controller the engine characteristic is seem to be better than the first, so the simulation model facilitates the choice of speed governor.Also study the relations between system states sensitivity to system parameters. The sensitivity value for both dynamic and steady state sensitivity gives weights of each of the variables for sensitivity analysis.
