Abstract

End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is one of the main health problems in egypt .haemodialysis (HD) remains the default therapy for all end stage renal disease (ESRD) and HD continues to have the highest rate of growth of all treatment modalities. Two million worldwide are dependent on dialysis; Moreover although dialysis can sustain life, it rarely restores health, patients undergoing dialysis have considerable complications.Infections continue to be a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with end-stage renal disease. Among persons on hemodialysis because of kidney failure, the leading causes of hospitalization are cardiovascular disease and infection .And after cardiovascular disease, infection is the second most important cause of mortality in the dialysis population, Patients undergoing hemodialysis are at risk for bloodstream infections (BSIs), and preventing these infections in this high-risk population is a national priority. The aim of this study is to identify knowledge, attitude and practices of infection control principles among health care workers in dialysis facilities in El-Menshawy hospital, evaluate the effect of infection control education program on improvement of knowledge, attitude and practices of health care workers, evaluate the incidence of blood born infections, and suggest strategies to improve patient safety.
